My journey

I am a parent of two grown up sons and have experienced and benefitted from a varied career inside and outside of teaching. I enjoy learning immensely and every day usually teaches me something new!

After completing a BA Hons degree in European Business and French during which time I worked and studied in France and Belgium, I spent a year teaching English in northern Spain where I learnt the language in situ. I still remember my first shopping trip to the market with my little dictionary!

On my return from Spain, I moved to England and started up a French teaching business for Primary aged children and adults - both requiring very different approaches! After the birth of my children, I spent some years working within business and secondary education, writing the then new Diplomas with businesses in various sectors.

This led me further down the education route to completion of a PGCE in primary teaching. After years in the classroom teaching many pupils with special educational needs, I taught two children significantly behind their expected level and unable to read. After researching their various problems (mainly memory and a general fear of writing) I suspected dyslexia to be the cause and did lots of online research. The real joy for me was seeing these children proudly sit down and read a book to me at the end of that year.

This propelled me on to study and obtain my professional certificate to become a specialist dyslexia teacher.

I am now using my knowledge and experience as a linguist, primary teacher, and specialist dyslexia teacher to make a difference to the lives of children and young adults.

Exceptional

"Julie has been exceptional assisting our son with his dyslexia. Tutoring on a Friday afternoon can mean our son is not always enthused before the lesson, but he constantly comes out energised, positive and motivated."

Enjoyable

"We have only been going for a short while but my 6 year old enjoys going to her sessions (even after a school day). I asked her to review and she said ‘the sessions and fun and the hour she spends there goes quickly. She especially likes the games at the end."
